Flexibility, scalability and modularity

The system architecture of APROL, a process control system from B&R, is characterized by its flexibility, scalability and modularity. It is designed to cover a wide range of industrial requirements and can be adapted to different system sizes and complexities.

Main components of the architecture

APROL consists of three central core components: engineering server, runtime server and operator station. Another, fourth core component is the controller.

Engineering server

This is where the entire system configuration (global engineering database) is created and managed. Changes can be safely implemented during operation.

Runtime server

The runtime server plays a central role in the system architecture of APROL because it provides the core functions of the system and handles the execution of the process logic.

Its main tasks and functions can be summarized as follows:
Execution of process logic, real-time database for processing process data, trends and alarms, connectivity.

In summary, the runtime server is the heart of the APROL process control system and is responsible for real-time control as well as data management and system communication. This component can be scaled to a maximum of 64 runtime servers as required.

Operator station

The operator station plays a central role in the APROL system architecture because it is the interface between the operating personnel and the process control technology.
