OPC UA on the runtime server and controller
OPC UA (Open Platform Communications Unified Architecture) is an open standard for industrial communication and offers much more than just data transfer. In APROL, powerful OPC UA functions are integrated into both the runtime server and the controller.
Access to real-time data
Enables quick access to current process data in real time. Communication between clients and the server always provides the latest values.
Historical access
Retrieval of archive data (trend data) from the past via the OPC UA server (control computer).
Alarms and events
Standardized transfer and evaluation of alarms and events. Access to current and (planned) historical alarms and events directly from the TimescaleDB.
Method calls
OPC UA enables functions to be called on the server, e.g. for starting a process or starting specific calculations.
File transfer
Secure transfer of files between client and server, e.g. for recipes or log files.
Security and authentication
End-to-end encrypted communication via digital certificates. Reliably protects against unauthorized access and data manipulation.
Redundancies
APROL supports both OPC UA client and server redundancy on the control computer. Ensures high availability and reliability of critical systems.
